Title Implementation of a Designed Laboratory Activity on Soil Absorption

Abstract This study was implemented a designed laboratory activity on Soil Absorption using the Water Absorption of Soil Apparatus for students to experience hands-on learning. The DIY Water Absorption of Soil Apparatus was constructed using the outline and materials of the standard DIY apparatus of DepEd芒聙聯NSTIC. The designed laboratory activity was developed by selecting a topic based on the concept of the standard apparatus, formulating of learning objectives for Grade 7 from the K to12 standards, using of materials that are accessible, less expensive; easy and safe to use and making of procedures and guide questions that were stated in simple language and easy to follow and understand. In-service and pre-service teachers rated the DIY Apparatus as very good; they strongly agreed to the criteria in the laboratory activity. Cloze test result shows that the readability of the laboratory activity is on the independent level. The respondents' achievement from pretest to posttest increased and their performance on the laboratory activity was excellent. Hence, the laboratory activity can be utilized in classroom instruction in teaching soil absorption.
