Abstract |
The study aimed to determine through the qualitative and quantitative methods the platforms, applications, and gadgets, used in e-learning; the issues encountered by the students and teachers in e-learning, and 179 students and teachers participated in the study where the participants were exposed to online classes using synchronous and asynchronous modalities. It was found that a combination of different platforms works better. For synchronous modalities, google classroom, meet, Edmodo, doc, slides, pictures, and jamboards were frequently used and YouTube, slides, Edmodo were used for asynchronous. Some of the issues confronted by students and teachers that deters e-learning were: home issues, time management, distraction on social media or browsing the internet, being proactive, inadequate computer literacy, lack of self-motivation, persistence, socialization, accountability, confidence, low reading comprehension, and limited know-how to manipulate the online class platform. The students think that e-learning lack credibility prefers the traditional method. Some teachers lack the experience in manipulating different platforms used in online classes. The switching from the traditional classroom to the computer-based virtual classroom makes the learning experience entirely different and the exposure to the variety of multimedia formats, and taking part in online. Some technical issues were: noisy background, low or no internet, and power interruptions. Interventions prescribed were: teacher training, mandatory use of noise-proof headsets, and strict adherence to the online class and more online class activities. |
