Abstract |
This paper focuses on two priority areas in disaster risk management, recovery and mitigation in Iligan City. Data for this purpose were generated through triangulation, a combination of key informant interview on selected government agencies and focus group discussions of selected purok and barangay officials from four barangays (Mandulog, Hinaplanon, Pugaan, Pala-o) and secondary materials.
Needs and plans for post-Typhoon Sendong recovery and rehabilitation as well as the preservation and mitigation in pre-Sendong and pre-Pablo for Iligan City are limited to three aspects: infrastructure, livelihood, and shelter. Using of Hyogo framework, the article advances that climate change adaptation and vulnerability are vital to the understanding of government planners and development workers in coming up with resilient infrastructure, livelihood and shelter needed to ensure sustainable development. Resilient recovery and rehabilitation program/projects are the best means of disaster prevention and mitigation. this would ensure that the huge amount of money invested in recovery and rehabilitation are built stronger and better to withstand further calamities in the city. |
