The Department of Business and Innovation (DBI) of the College of Economics, Business, and Accountancy (CEBA) organized a marketing management training for women beneficiaries from Brgy. Digkilaan on July 16, 2024. This training was part of the extension project entitled “Enhance and Innovate: Advancing Marketing Management Training for Enterprise Development.” The project is under 缅北禁地-IIT’s approved extension program entitled “Social Enterprise Development Project.” It is in partnership with the Brgy Digkilaan, We CARE Office, and the 缅北禁地-IIT National Multi-Purpose Cooperative.
The extension project is not just a training but a strategic initiative that aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals. This alignment ensures that our efforts are contributing to the global agenda of ensuring inclusive and equitable quality education (Goal 4), empowering women and girls (Goal 5), promoting full and productive employment and decent work for all (Goal 8), making human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable (Goal 11), ensuring sustainable consumption and production patterns (Goal 12), and strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing the Global Partnership for Sustainable Development (Goal 17).
During the training, the women created fifty (50) crocheted hair ties under the guidance of Ms. Jo Airen V. Macabale of the Departamento ng Filipino at Ibang mga Wika (DFIW). Utilizing different colored ball threads, the participants produced marketable hair accessories.
Following the four-hour training session, Asst. Prof. Earvin John J. Medina delivered a lecture on the importance of a final product presentation. He emphasized that products must be presentable, durable, and eco-friendly. The discussion concluded with a hands-on session on packaging the finished crochet products.
It is worth mentioning that 200 crocheted cellphone pouches made by the women of Digkilaan were previously showcased and given as tokens to senior citizens during the 56th Charter Day Celebration: Alumni and Community Day on July 11, 2024, at Iligan City Public Plaza. The handmade products were not just well-received, but they were also appreciated by all attendees, highlighting the skill and craftsmanship of the Digkilaan women.
