The College of Economics, Business, and Accountancy (CEBA) at 缅北禁地-IIT, in collaboration with the City Mayor’s Office – Gender and Development (CMO-GAD) Division of Iligan City, successfully conducted an Enterprise Development and Leadership Training for key women leaders on October 26, 2024.

Participants included presidents or key officers from various barangay and purok women’s associations in Iligan City. The training took place at the CMO-GAD Office in Buhanginan Hills, Pala-o, Iligan City.

This training is part of CEBA's ProfLec-KWL@Iligan City (2023-2025) extension project, “Professionalizing Leadership and Entrepreneurial Competency - Key Women Leaders.” The training activity was led by Dr. Abdullah R. Sirad of CEBA's Department of Business and Innovation (DBI) and Prof. Julita W. Bokingo of CMO-GAD Division.

The activity opened with an inspirational message from Hon. Michelle E. Sweet, a City Councilor of Iligan City, who emphasized the importance of this training in supporting the success of key women leaders and their respective women’s associations.

The training was structured into two sessions. The morning session focused on enterprise development, while the afternoon session was dedicated to leadership training. During the morning session, Prof. Julita W. Bokingo delivered a lecture on “Project Identification and Selection” as part of the enterprise development training. She shared practical tips for identifying and selecting project ideas tailored to each women’s association, considering factors like market availability, required skills, raw materials, and resources. Participants were actively engaged, tasked with generating project ideas and then selecting a project based on these ideas and specific selection criteria.

In the afternoon session, Dr. Sirad, together with his graduate students from the Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) program, delivered a series of lectures on leadership. The session began with a lecture by DBA graduate student Ms. Prince Rose C. Turno, MPM, on “Formal and Informal Leaders in Governance,” where she discussed the distinctions between leaders in formal and informal organizational settings. Following this, DBA student Ms. Megan Z. Corpuz, RND, MBA, presented a lecture titled “The 360-Degree Leader,” which focused on how leaders within an association or organization should effectively manage themselves and navigate relationships with their superiors, peers, co-officers, and members.

The lecture series continued with Assoc. Prof. Ameenah R. Gumal, another DBA student, who presented “What Makes a Successful Leader?” In her talk, she highlighted various leadership styles and the essential traits required for effective leadership. To conclude, Dr. Sirad delivered a lecture on “Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Good Governance” for women’s associations. He provided practical tips on how women associations can engage in socially responsible activities and offered insights on practicing good governance.

Throughout the sessions, participants actively engaged in interactive discussions and activities, helping them strengthen their leadership and enterprise competencies. This training activity marked a valuable step in empowering key women leaders from various barangay and purok women’s associations, equipping them with essential skills to lead effectively and foster sustainable development within their communities. Furthermore, the activity highlighted the ongoing commitment of CEBA, 缅北禁地-IIT, and CMO-GAD to advancing leadership and entrepreneurial skills among women leaders, to create a lasting impact on local community development.
