Faculty members from the College of Health Sciences, Dr. Neil M. Martin, Roy D. Gumayao, and Froilan Jan S. Macapil, represented the Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology in the regional short course for Health, Allied Health, and Collaborating Professionals. The event, which took place from February 26 to 27, 2025, was held at Hotel Kimberly in Metro Manila. It was titled One Health Approach in Public Health: Teaching, Training, Research, and Collaboration in the Post-COVID-19 Era and aimed to bring together representatives from higher education institutions, government agencies, and non-government organizations.

The short course was designed to offer continuing professional development and raise awareness of the One Health approach. It emphasized its significance to a multidisciplinary group of participants, providing a platform for professionals from diverse backgrounds to interact and engage in discussions. The goal was to foster future partnerships through collaborative efforts in research, teaching, and training to enhance the quality of healthcare and service delivery.

The two-day event featured a series of informative sessions, covering critical topics such as Climate Change and Health, Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), Zoonotic Diseases, Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases, Food Safety and Security, and the One Health Approach to Teaching, Training, Research, and Collaboration. The sessions were enriched by guest speakers from renowned organizations, including the Department of Health, the University of the Philippines, Philippine General Hospital, the Department of Agriculture, and the World Health Organization (WHO) Philippines.

Dr. Martin, representing Mindanao, was one of the selected participants chosen to share his insights on the event, alongside two other participants from the National Capital Region and one from Myanmar. Along with Mr. Macapil and Mr. Gumayao, Dr. Martin participated in the signing of the One Health Call to Action, a collective commitment to address a wide range of public health challenges and improve health outcomes through collaborative efforts.
