Associate Professor Lourd Greggory D. Crisol, faculty member of the Department of English- College of Arts and Social Sciences (CASS), secured the 2nd Runner-Up position in the tula category at the GAWAD Takos literary competition, organized by the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology (NEUST). His poem, “Halang-Halang,” was selected from submissions featured in Volumes 4 and 5 of TAKOS: An Anthology of Gendered Refereed Literary Genres.
According to Crisol, the selection process for the GAWAD Takos was both thorough and meticulous, starting at the editorial level before advancing to a panel of esteemed judges. The works deemed most compelling were then forwarded to the judging board, which selected the winners based on a detailed and rigorous set of criteria. The panel of judges included some of the most respected names in Philippine literature, such as Ferdinand Pisigan Jarin, Ernesto Villaluz Carandang II, Christine Bellen-Ang, Genaro R. Gozo-Cruz, and Marco Antonio R. Rodas.
The awarding ceremony took place on March 11, 2025, at NEUST's Sumacab Campus in Nueva Ecija, with winners from various parts of the Philippines, including Sorsogon, Butuan, Batangas, and Metro Manila.
The ceremony celebrated emerging writers and emphasized the promotion of gender equality through literature. TAKOS, the journal behind the competition, seeks to provide a platform for diverse voices and highlight issues of gender through literary expression.
In addition to his recent achievement, Crisol was also the 1st place winner of the 2024 Kinaiya: Kolektib ng mga LGBTQIA+ na Manunulat poetry contest.
The GAWAD Takos event underscored the importance of diversity in literature and the role of writing in advocating for gender equality.
