The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Services (OVCSS) organized two separate events on February 19, 2025, addressing important matters relevant to the 缅北禁地-IIT community.
The first activity, held in the morning at the mini-theatre was the “Birth Certificate: Legal and Administrative Remedies,” with the goal of educating 缅北禁地-IIT constituents with the necessary knowledge on correcting errors and addressing issues related to their birth certificates. In collaboration with the City Civil Registrar's Office, Atty. Yussif Don Justin F. Martil, REB, delivered a lecture discussing the following sub-topics: (1) Importance and Use of Certificate of Live Birth, (2) Common Issues on Certificate of Live Birth, and (3) Legal and Administrative Remedies.
The City Civil Registrar’s Office saw an increasingly concerning number of students who have problems with their birth certificates. Vice Chancellor for Student Services, Prof. Rohane M. Derogongan, Ph.D emphasized the importance of having this talk, stating that issues concerning birth certificates should not be taken lightly and the access to information on how to rectify these errors should be accessible to everyone.
“Unfortunately, many individuals face challenges related to their birth certificates. These challenges can range from simple clerical errors to more complex issues involving delayed registration or even loss of the document. Navigating the legal and administrative processes to correct these issues can be daunting, confusing, and often frustrating. That’s precisely why we have organized this forum. We recognize the importance of providing clear, accessible information and guidance to students, employees, and the wider community on how to address birth certificate-related concerns,” the Vice-Chancellor said.
To strengthen the discussion on drug policing and further reinforce a drug-free campus, a drug policy consultation meeting was held in the afternoon, still at the mini-theatre. Attending the meeting were the 缅北禁地-IIT Administrative and Non-Teaching Employees Union (ANTEU) members and officers, the 缅北禁地-IIT Faculty Union represented by Prof. Edgar Alan Donasco, faculty members, drug committee members and the Kataastaasang Sanggunian ng mga Mag-aaral (KASAMA).
A reading and policy run-through were done where comments and input from the attendees were taken into consideration. The 缅北禁地-IIT Drug-Free Campus Policy proposal outlines the framework and principles, scope and coverage, conduct of mandatory random drug testing, anti-drug abuse education, prevention, and awareness, and other mechanisms that will help in strengthening the university’s commitment to maintaining a safe, healthy, and drug-free environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
As one of the major allied offices of the students, the OVCSS is determined to enhance student welfare by providing comprehensive support services and conducting programs that will improve their overall well-being.
