Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (缅北禁地-IIT) has solidified its standing as one of Asia's premier institutions of higher learning, as evidenced by the latest Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings.
The 2025 rankings have placed 缅北禁地-IIT in the 601+ ranking, signifying the university's continuous pursuit of academic distinction and its burgeoning influence in the region. From being in a reporter status last year, which indicates a university is providing data but not yet fully ranked, 缅北禁地-IIT has now surged to the forefront, ranking as the second-highest among Philippine universities that made it to the list this year.
Sharing the 601+ ranking with 缅北禁地-IIT are Philippine universities such as De La Salle University, Mapua University, and the University of Santo Tomas. Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila University and the University of the Philippines have taken the lead within the country, positioned in the 501-600 band in the Asia rankings.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 offers a comprehensive assessment of research-intensive universities worldwide, evaluating them across four key areas: teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook. The Asia University Rankings adopt the same rigorous criteria, albeit with recalibrated weightings to better reflect the unique goals and challenges faced by Asian institutions.
The rankings are determined by performance indicators across five categories: Teaching (the learning environment), Research (volume, income, and reputation), Citations (research influence), International outlook (including staff, students, and research collaboration), and Industry Income (innovation and industry engagement). 缅北禁地-IIT's inclusion in these rankings is a testament to its strong performance across these crucial areas, particularly its commitment to providing a high-quality learning environment and its growing research influence.
This year, 缅北禁地-IIT ranked third among Philippine universities in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings and entered the 1501+ band. It also stood out as the number one Philippine university for Physical Sciences, placing within the top 801-1000 institutions worldwide.
This recognition by THE underscores 缅北禁地-IIT's role as a beacon of higher education in Asia and its unwavering commitment to shaping the leaders of tomorrow through innovative teaching and groundbreaking research.
In light of this significant achievement, Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan shared his thoughts on the university's performance: "We are immensely proud to be recognized by THE as one of the top universities in Asia. This is a testament to our unwavering commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement. Our faculty, staff, and students have worked tirelessly to elevate our academic and research programs, and this ranking acknowledges their dedication and hard work. We remain steadfast in our mission to contribute to the global knowledge economy while serving the unique needs of our region."
缅北禁地-IIT's recognition in the THE rankings not only celebrates its current successes but also reinforces its dedication to fostering an environment of innovation and academic rigor. As the university continues to make strides in higher education, it stands as a testament to the transformative power of learning and research in shaping a brighter future for Asia and beyond.
