CBAA conducts workshop in celebration of National Women鈥檚 Month 2019

March 27, 2019, Wednesday --- In part of the celebration of the National Women’s Month, the College of Business Administration and Accountancy has recently conducted its workshop with the theme “Empowering Women through Business Education”, held at the Hotel Management Lab, 缅北禁地-IIT. Distinguished speakers are from the Department of Marketing, Hotel Management, and delegates from the Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas. With the objective of empowering women, the College Extension committee invited women who currently play a vital role in their respective barangays in Iligan city. 

The speakers of the event include three of CBAA’s own professors: Prof. Marlo C. Novino, a faculty of the department of Marketing Department who recently represented the Philippines in the Young Southeast Asian Leaders Initiative (YSEALI) Fall 2018 held at the United States of America along with Prof. Joana Marie C. Edera, and Prof. Champ Gabriel Nanaman, the Chairperson of the Department of Hotel Management. Joining them are Mr. Dexter Erick A. Demafeliz, Bank Officer 2 and Ms. Zendy E. Pascual, Senior Research Specialist both from BSP.

The seminar was highly engaging and tackled different topics and activities that aimed on creating opportunities for the participants to see and think for themselves the endless possibilities of becoming a more capable woman in modern society, such as learning about budgeting finances, creating innovative business ideas as an additional source of income, and the like. The following are the topics introduced by the guest speakers:

  • Business Opportunity Ideation by Prof. Marlo C. Novino
  • Personal Finance: Savings and Budgeting by Mr. Dexter Erick A. Demsfeliz
  • Consumer Protection with Currency Familiarization by Ms. Zendy E. Pascual
  • Customer Service by Mr. Champ Gabriel Nanaman

To put into application the understanding of the participants of the discussions made during the lectures, activities were created. One particular activity from the seminar was called the “The Clock Challenge” where participants were given the chance to interact, create networks, and see from a different perspective where their fellow participants are coming from, which would be used as their basis on ideating what kind of entrepreneurial undertaking they could make given the resources from the different barangay's present in the event. The most notable answers include a sari-sari store and a banana-que stand.

The seminar concluded with the handing out of certificates and an official photo-op with the speakers and everyone involved to mark another successful event.
