A number of faculty members from the College of Health Sciences (CHS) of the Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology (缅北禁地-IIT) presented their papers during the 3rd International Conference on Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL)鈥檚 Transformative Education for Successful Re-entry held on October 9 鈥 11, 2024 at the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Obrero Campus in Davao City.听 听
CHS鈥 Asst. Prof. Lynuel R. Santillana, Asst. Prof. Jessica B. Orias and Assoc. Prof. Mae-Lanie O. Poblete presented their papers during the conference that was organized by the USeP and the Social Entrepreneurship, Technology, and Business institute (SETBI) which had the theme, Beyond Barriers: Reconnect and Rebuild.听
Santillana presented her paper entitled, 鈥淒oing Time While Making Time for the Young: A Phenomenological Study on Mothers Deprived of Liberty in Iligan City Jail 鈥 Female Dormitory towards Motherhood,鈥 under Track 2: Elevating Voices (Narratives, The Arts, and Creative Expression) on the first day.
Orias and Poblete also presented their papers 鈥淪agip-Piitan: Health Care Initiative Health Lecture Series and Hygiene Kit Project鈥 and 鈥淓valuation of the Health Program for Older Adults in Iligan City Bureau of Jail Management and Penology: Basis for Formulation of Nursing Programs鈥 respectively, under Track 3: Equity in Policy and Practice (Access, Quality and Pathways to Campus) on the second day.
Keynote speakers for the three-day event were Assoc. Prof. and Emerson Prison Initiative Director Dr. Mnessha Gellman on day one. Also, the Commission on Higher Education Chair Dr. J. Prospero 鈥淧opoy鈥 De Vera III; and the Correctional Education Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education of the United States Department of State's Director Attorney Sean Addie (online) delivered their messages the following day.
Other CHS faculty who attended the conference were Assoc. Prof. Rambe C. Ramel, Jr., Assoc. Prof. Jiddo Andrei G. Maranda, and Asst. Prof. Karlo Gayao.
