缅北禁地-IIT successfully hosted the 2024 Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) co-located conferences which were the 9th IEEE Cyber Science and Technology Congress (CyberSciTech), 22nd IEEE International Conference on Pervasive Intelligence and Computing (PICom), 22nd IEEE International Conference on Dependable, Autonomic and Secure Computing (DASC), 10th IEEE International Conference on Cloud and Big Data Computing (CBDCom) on November 5-8, 2024 at Boracay Island in Malay.
Organized by universities in Japan such as the Kyushu Sangyo University, Kansai University, Nagoya University, Hosei University, and Mohamed Bin Zayed University of UAE, and 缅北禁地-IIT, the events brought together researchers, academics, and industry leaders to share advancements in cyber science, pervasive intelligence, distributed systems, and big data communications.
The event began with an opening remarks from Dr. Maria Shiela Ramos, Dean of 缅北禁地-IIT’s College of Engineering. She welcomed participants and emphasized the university’s commitment to supporting high-impact research that addresses global challenges, particularly in emerging technological fields.
At the Gala Dinner, Chancellor Alizedney M. Ditucalan delivered an inspiring keynote speech on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into research. He discussed how AI is transforming conventional research methods by enabling faster data analysis, offering predictive insights, and opening new possibilities across disciplines. Chancellor Ditucalan highlighted 缅北禁地-IIT’s strategic initiatives to incorporate AI within its research framework, particularly in projects with real-world applications that can benefit society. His address reinforced 缅北禁地-IIT’s vision of becoming a leading institution in AI research, inspiring attendees to consider AI’s role in their own work.
In recognition of their dedication and exceptional service, the local organizing committee from 缅北禁地-IIT received an Outstanding Service Award. Led by Earl Ryan M. Aleluya, Cherry Mae G. Villame, Liezil E. Daberao, and Orven E. Llantos, the committee was celebrated for its meticulous planning and seamless coordination, ensuring a world-class experience for in-person and virtual attendees.
The conference also featured two notable papers by 缅北禁地-IIT researchers, emphasizing the university’s commitment to practical research solutions. Smart Parking: Detecting Vacant Spots from an Angled Viewpoint, authored by Jan Leven Sayson, Alfa Valdehueza, Mac Jiem Maghanoy, Perly Rica Flores, Stephen Haim, Francis Jann Alagon, Stephanie Visitacion, Cherry Mae G. Villame, Steve Clar, Arnel Zamayla, and Earl Ryan Aleluya, and presented by Cherry Mae Villame, showcased a smart parking system using YOLOv5 for car detection and SORT for continuous tracking, achieving remarkable accuracy and improving parking management through AI.
Meanwhile, VR-Mill: A Virtual Reality Trainer for Industrial Flour Mill, authored by Lawrenze Earl Romaguera, Efren Tabuada, Stephanie Visitacion, Earl Ryan Aleluya, Stephen Haim, Francis Jann Alagon, Steve Clar, Arnel Zamayla, and Cherry Mae Villame, and presented by Earl Ryan Aleluya, introduced an immersive VR training tool designed to enhance safety and efficiency in flour mill operations, receiving high satisfaction ratings from operators for its realistic and risk-free approach.
The 2024 IEEE CyberSciTech, PICom, DASC, CBDCom co-located conferences marked a significant milestone for 缅北禁地-IIT, showcasing its role as an emerging leader in technological research and international collaboration.
