To enrich the knowledge of general research ethical principles of faculty members, the Philippine Health Research Ethics Board (PHREB) conducted a two-day training on Basic Research Ethics Training (BRET) on February 1-2, 2024, at the Conference Hall of the PRISM Building.

Faculty members from 缅北禁地-IIT, 缅北禁地-Marawi, 缅北禁地-Lanao del Norte Agricultural College, 缅北禁地 Naawan, and 缅北禁地-Maigo School of Arts and Trades join the event.

The training had Prof. Peter Sy, a member, and lecturer of PHREB- Committee on Information Dissemination, Training, and Advocacy, and his colleague Dr. Carl Abelardo, as its resource persons and trainers.

The activity’s goals were to optimize the research skills of the faculty members and remind them of the essential characteristics of ethical research– that when pursuing research studies, it has to be for the good of humanity and must be scientifically and ethically sound.

On the second day, both resource speakers alternately discussed lectures on Protecting the Vulnerable in Research, Current Issues on Research, Qualified Researcher, International Guidelines, and Navigating the Ethics Review process and also facilitated interactive group work.

The culture of research and innovation is continuously advancing and is supported in different 缅北禁地 campuses. In particular, 缅北禁地-IIT has recently allocated more than 19 million for faculty research projects for the year 2024. With the thriving research environment within the University, Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan emphasized the importance of ethics in research further underscoring why the training is necessary.

“...this University shares the concern for the protection of the rights and welfare of research subjects or participants. The regard for the feelings, rights, or traditions of others is a trait we take care not to forget to emphasize as that is undoubtedly what makes the holistic education we strive to give here holistic,” said Chancellor Ditucalan in his opening remarks.

…this training coincides with the establishment of our RICO or Research Integrity and Compliance Office. This office is the one that will ensure all research conducted by our faculty and students adhere to professional standards and are rooted in integrity and ethical conduct,” he added.
