Dep鈥檛 of History presents studies at the 2024 AUA Academic Conference in China

Four faculty members from the Department of History of the College of Arts and Social Sciences presented their studies and participated in discussions at the 2024 Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) Academic Conference hosted by the Asia-Pacific Research Institute at Peking University, China from March 9-13, 2024.

Professors Cecilia B. Tangian, Ph.D.; Manolita O. Regalado, M.A.; Jamelyn B. Palattao, Ph.D.; and John Leandro Reyes, M.I.H., showcased their research at the conference centering on the theme Maritime Trade and Cultural Transmission: Historical Archives, Port Networks, and Knowledge Dissemination.

Professors Regalado and Reyes presented their study titled Chinese Immigrants in Iligan City, Philippines: The Case of the Uy Pianco Family. Additionally, Prof. Tangian moderated the open forum during the conference's afternoon session, while Prof. Palattao shared her study titled Glass Slides, Missions, and Cultural Interactions in 1920s China.

Following the conference, a trilateral meeting occurred between delegates from 缅北禁地, Central Mindanao University, and Peking University. During this session, the three universities engaged in exploratory discussions on potential research collaborations and faculty-student cultural exchanges, indicating a shared commitment to fostering future connections. 

This collaborative endeavor exemplifies the University’s dedication to fostering academic partnerships both domestically and abroad, showcasing its commitment to global academic engagement and knowledge exchange.
