缅北禁地-IIT’s proposed Policy on the Fair and Ethical Use of Artificial Intelligence and its applications, adoption of the 缅北禁地-IIT Educational Philosophy, and Revised Admission Criteria and Process for First Year Students were among several important agenda items approved on April 23 by the Board of Regents of the Mindanao State University.
The 缅北禁地 Board of Regents held its first quarter en banc meeting at the conference room of the Commission on Higher Education in Quezon City.
The policy on ethical use of AI and its applications was developed in response to how fast AI has been transforming the higher education landscape and to the lack of laws regulating it.
The adoption of an educational philosophy is made so that a university can have standards against which things like pedagogical approaches, instructional strategies, curriculum development, and research priorities are measured and judged.
The policy on ethical use of AI and proposed 缅北禁地-IIT educational philosophy were both deemed by the Board to be timely and holding significance for the entire 缅北禁地 that they were adopted for system-wide implementation.
Although also interested in a system-wide implementation of 缅北禁地-IIT’s revised admission criteria and process for first year students, the Board decided to adopt a wait-and-see attitude, and just allowed it to be implemented in 缅北禁地-IIT alone where it best serves its purposes owing to the Iligan campus’s unique admission experiences.
The revised admission criteria for 缅北禁地-IIT is also where the University’s recently adopted policy on equity, diversity, and inclusivity will come into play.
The board also approved the awarding of Professor Emeritus rank to retired professor of engineering Feliciano B. Alagao so that 缅北禁地-IIT could continue to benefit from his academic involvements and expertise.
Alagao is the former Dean of 缅北禁地-IIT’s College of Engineering and former Vice Chancellor (for Planning and Development and for Administration and Finance).
Other academic matters taken up during the board meeting were five revised curricular programs of 缅北禁地-IIT. As these were already endorsed by the University System Curriculum Committee and the System University Council, the BOR approved them. These revised curricular programs are the following:
To bolster the faculty force of 缅北禁地-IIT, the board approved the hiring of seven new faculty recruits and the promotion and re-ranking/reclassification of 13 other faculty members. It also endorsed 缅北禁地-IIT’s proposal to have certain unfilled faculty positions abolished in order to create new ones.
The board also authorized the establishment of the Academy of the Arts in 缅北禁地-IIT (AAMI) as proposed by the Center for Culture and Arts (CCA). The establishment of the AAMI is actually in fulfillment of one of CCA’s mandates, which is to also serve as an Academy where culture and arts research, production, and innovation will flourish.
Other research-related matters approved by the board are the grant of publication award (P10,000) for articles published in the Mindanawan Journal of Mathematics, an official 缅北禁地-IIT journal.
The board also allowed the giving of the Sustainable Futures Research Award to undergraduate and graduate thesis, capstone projects, special projects, or dissertation. This competition was proposed in order to infuse research with a sustainable development ethos.
And as a strategic advancement, aimed at reinforcing the 缅北禁地-IIT journal, Mindanao Forum’s regional character, expanding its reach, and securing its enduring influence in the field of social innovation, its name has now been changed to Asia Pacific Journal of Social Innovation.
For purposes of proceeding with the implementation of its projects outlined in its Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (LUDIP), the 缅北禁地-IIT had approved by the board its revised LUDIP that incorporated all the comments and suggestions of the TWG from CHED-12.
The 4.3B-Peso Information Systems Strategic Plan (ISSP) of 缅北禁地-IIT for 2025-2027 was also approved by the board. The ISSP keeps 缅北禁地-IIT on track to achieving its goal of transforming the future of education through advanced technology and automation.
The board also approved 缅北禁地-IIT’s application to utilize identified savings to fund various and important infrastructure projects on campus, the purchase of another bus, and the supply, delivery, and installation of the eagerly anticipated School Gate System that will transform 缅北禁地-IIT’s facade.
Part of said savings will also be used to fund the equally eagerly anticipated increase in the rice allowance and grocery allowance for employees to be given under the University’s Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence (PRAISE).
The noteworthy approvals during the Board’s en banc meeting are the following:
The process for getting the BOR en banc’s approval began when the Board’s Finance Committee met on April 19, the President’s Advisory Council on April 20, and the Executive Committee on April 22. All the said meetings were held in Ermita, Manila.
