A five-day series of orientation on Risk and Opportunity Management held at the COE Conference Hall and OVCSI Conference Room was conducted by the Office of Quality Assurance Management Services (OQuAMS) from February 19 to 23, 2023.
In line with its initiative for continuous improvement, OQuAMS reinforces the understanding of potential risks and benefits of pursuing opportunities to enhance processes. This initiative fosters proactive decision making, mitigates potential negative impacts, and maximizes positive outcomes.
OQuAMS Director, Ms. Farrah Marie P. Separa-Erazo spearheaded the initial run of the event attended by the College Deans, Assistant Deans, and Directors from the Academic Cluster. On the succeeding days, Responsibility Center Heads and Representatives from the different offices were gathered for a more extensive close group discussion and feedback sessions to improve their updated Risks and Opportunities.
The orientation also served as a refresher which gears largely on the importance of the proper usage of Risk and Opportunity Management Forms with the intention to help University heads clearly identify risks and opportunities to better serve its clientele so as to equip them for the upcoming ISO 9001:2015 Recertification in April.
Last year, a Workshop on the Root Cause Analysis and Risk and Opportunity Management was held at the University Gymnasium participated by the Responsibility Center heads where they initially learned to closely identify their risks and opportunities, how to assess and calculate its likelihood of occurrence and consequences and the proper utilization of the Risk Control Action Plan (RCAP) and Opportunity Pursuit Plan (OPP). The workshop outputs from the said event were then utilized for this year’s round of updating the risks and opportunities that they have declared. Specific comments were given to each submitted form for each office by Ms. Erazo. She emphasized the importance of properly framing the identified risks and opportunities as it fosters the creation of invaluable PAPs (Programs, Activities and Projects). The orientation also gave an avenue for the RC heads to discuss with one another how to effectively streamline interdependent processes.
The OQuAMS aspires that through these initiatives and the sharing of best practices, University Heads will not only learn the technicalities of using the forms but also appreciate the uniqueness of each process. By understanding these nuances, they can simplify operations and enhance performance evaluation through proper mitigation strategies and by maximizing positive outcomes.
With the intent to promote a culture of continuous learning and adaptation, OQuAMS ensures that improvements are sustainable and aligned with long-term strategic goals, ultimately contributing to the organization’s competitive edge and success.
