Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology (缅北禁地-IIT) is championing Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3, Good Health and Well-Being, through its innovative basketball initiatives. Renowned for its advancements in science and technology, as well as culture and the arts, the university is now expanding its influence in the field of sports.
It recently wrapped up a successful basketball clinic for children, underscoring its commitment to supporting SDG 3. This initiative, organized by the Office of the Chancellor (OC) and the College of Engineering (COE), aimed to cultivate physical fitness, mental wellness, and a passion for sports among young participants. Chancellor Alizedney Ditucalan, a sports enthusiast, graced some of the game sessions and met with special guests from the Gilas Boys, Paul Diao and Apl McAndrei Gemao.
"I envision a future where our students not only excel in academics but also in sports. Our goal is to design innovative programs to nurture athletic talent and instill a passion for sports among our community. We eagerly anticipate the opportunity to kickstart and implement our vision of establishing a state-of-the-art sports complex on our Hinaplanon campus. With faith in our vision and the support of the national government, we aspire to secure the necessary funding to turn this dream into a reality," said Chancellor Ditucalan.
The 缅北禁地-IIT Basketball Clinic for Kids, targeting children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and godchildren of university employees, kicked off on July 15 and concluded on July 26. The children were divided into two groups: 19 were in the beginners' class and 11 in the advanced class, where they honed fundamental and advanced basketball skills.
As the clinic came to an end, the 缅北禁地-IIT Alumni Basketball League, another basketball program that simultaneously commenced with the Basketball Clinic for Kids and co-organized by the Alumni and Endowment Fund Center, continued its stretch, set to run until August 15. These sporting events and the series of other sports competitions in the pipeline are building anticipation for the upcoming Grand Alumni Homecoming in December.
缅北禁地-IIT's commitment to fostering a well-rounded community through athletics underscores its dedication to nurturing not just academic excellence, but also physical well-being and sportsmanship among its students and alumni.
